I really? wish ( ... I really? wish (some)Americans,who didn't grow up in Africa, would get rid of their one dimensional view of what race is and take the South African paradigm into account. I am coloured, i am Khoi, white and black. I refer to myself as coloured and do so proudly, cause well, this is what I am. The khoi people were around living as a seperate group from black and white since long before Dutch colonisation and saying that we are "just" black, is not accurate in the least.

@qlaw04 you really ... @qlaw04 you really should know the country and its origins before you passing comments about what you do and call people in America. The coloured people in South Africa actually call themselves that as do the rest of the country. It is not a racist term it is simply what they are called. Some will actually get annoyed if you call them blacks. Please dont think that just? because in other countries they refer to them as one thing and therefore we have to as well.
@qlaw04 um maybe in ... @qlaw04 um maybe in america but in south africa they are coloured, they are a considerable part of the population that formed from interrracial relationships between whites, blacks, malay, indians, khoisan etc. Plus the mother tongue for most of them? is Afrikaans. All you have said is what they would be considered in America, but they aren't in America, they are in South Africa.

@qlaw04 Actually ... @qlaw04 Actually you call some people Latino/Hispanic too don't you? Coloureds are more similar to that, their own language, culture and heritage that's very different from South African blacks. Only a small bit of their racial make-up? is shared with blacks, it's mostly Malay, Khoisan, and bits of white and black mixed. Differs for each group though.
How is black just "what they are" because it's the term you use for some people? Coloured is the only term they've ever used for themselves.

In America we have people whose skin is much fairer than that of these kids, some even have blue eyes and we call them black, which is what they? are. Hell even in places like England and Canada these kids are black and no different racially than Desmond Tutu.

USAID Helps THRASS British Phonics Programme Expand into Namibia
The THRASS phonics programme, pioneered by British Educational Psychologist Alan Davies, has already enjoyed considerable success in many parts of Africa and is being welcomed as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. Now, with the help of USAID, and following the recent THRASS Accredited Certificate course in Okahandja, THRASS could soon be implemented in every school in Namibia.
South Africa's Absa Bank to Fund British Literacy Programme THRASS
The THRASS phonics programme, pioneered by British Educational Psychologist Alan Davies, has already been welcomed as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. Now Absa, a member of the Barclays Group, are set to announce the corporate sponsorship of THRASS though the THRASS Absa TalkTogether Project. The primary aim of the project is to increase literacy in South Africa, through the improved teaching and learning of English, that will be achieved by partnering universities, primary schools and other organisations. The secondary aim is to provide a platform to celebrate South Africa's eleven national languages, through free interactive software and printable calendar charts.
